Number of private investors in the Netherlands 1997-2022
The number of Dutch households participating in private investments increased steadily between 2015 and 2021, when it peaked at 1.96 million. The following year saw a slight decrease as the total number of households participating in private investments now rests at 1.91 million.
In the Netherlands, investing (or in Dutch: beleggen) household savings is a normal thing to do. Banks or other asset managers (collectively called vermogensbeheerders in Dutch) offer products which makes it easy for households to participate in private or retail investing. Note that private banking or wealth management is a step above this, as these financial products target wealth individuals such as HNWIs (High-net-worth-individuals).
