In 2023, approximately 4.6 million passenger journeys on average were done by the metro daily in Hong Kong, representing an increase of around 25 percent from the previous year. Average daily ridership Hong Kong's MTR lines dropped sharply between 2020 and 2022, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent travel restrictions.

MTR Lines include Kwun Tong Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Island Line, Tung Chung Line, Disneyland Resort Line, Tseung Kwan O Line, East Rail Line, South Island Line, Tuen Ma Line, Intercity Through Train and the Hong Kong Section of the Express Rail Link (XRL).
