The number of permits issued in Sweden for the construction of new residential buildings in 2023 was significantly lower than in the previous years. While 1,007 residential building permits were issued in the last quarter of 2023, that figure amounted to 2,979 permits in the second quarter of 2022. Permit issuance for housing has thus hit its lowest level since 2015.

Figures refer to the number of permits for whole buildings, not for dwellings. That means that a multi-family building would only be taken into account once.
