In 2023, approximately 37,630 registered doctors in the United Kingdom (UK) received their primary medical qualification (PMQ) from the European Economic Area (EEA) excluding the UK. The sudden increase of numbers in 2020 and 2021 was most likely a reflection of temporary emergency register doctors, who were added to the workforce as part of the COVID response.
