CDU membership development in Germany: number of additions, resignations and deaths from 2008 to 2019*
* Resignations and deaths are displayed with a minus sign due to representation reasons.
** Additions: first recording of data during joining + renewed joining (stay abroad, resignation) + non-member (such as youth organization) becomes member + guest becomes member + backdated joining. Also counted are those who resigned during the year. Not counted are those who changed their local organization unit during the year, resigning in the old and joining the new.
** Resignations: only explicit resignations. The following categories were not counted: address unknown, card index adjustment, unresolvable departure, exclusion, withdrawal due to failure to pay fees.
Note from source: it should be emphasized that the equation end-of-year numbers from previous year + additions - resignations – deaths = end-of-year numbers isn’t valid due to various reasons (additional addition and resignation types such as deletion due to unpaid fees, exclusion, delays in data recording, possible double payments and errors in data recording).
