AUM of private equity and venture capital funds in Luxembourg 2000-2017

This statistic shows the total assets under management (AUM) of private equity and venture capital funds in Luxembourg from 2000 to 2017 (in million euros). Private equity is a form of equity, shares representing ownership or an interest in an entity, that is not publicly traded. Typically, the investors are high net worth individuals and large institutional investors. It can take different shapes, such as a management buyout, management buying (MBI), a divisional buyout or venture capital for starting companies through an angel investor.

Luxembourg has different legal structures to set up a regulated venture capital or private equity firm, such such as the investment company in risk capital (SICAR), the specialized investment fund (SIF) or the reserved alternative investment fund (RAIF). Nonetheless, the total value of AUM of all the funds together was roughly 78.8 billion euros at the end of 2017.
