Merger and acquisitions (M&A) deals that are valued at over one billion U.S dollars are called 'mega deals'. The share of M&A mega deals generally decreased with some fluctuation between 1985 and 2023. In 1985, the share of M&A mega deals amounted to 2.8 percent, by 2023 this had decreased to one percent. Despite deals over one billion U.S dollars only making up such a some percentage of the total number of deals, so called mega deals made up the majority of the total value of global deals.
