In 2020, the production value of electric refrigerators was highest among appliances produced in Japan, amounting to about 223.5 billion Japanese yen. Electric massagers had the lowest value, with around 6.2 billion yen in production value.

Sales value of consumer electric appliances

In terms of sales, electric refrigerators also generated the highest value among consumer electric appliances, with approximately 312.2 billion yen. Electric washing machines followed with a sales value of more than 176 billion yen. In 2020, around 2.7 million units of washing machines were retailed in Japan.

Electric refrigerators

When it comes to electric refrigerators, Japanese brands dominate the sales market in Japan. Japanese companies such as Hitachi, Ltd., Panasonic Corporation, and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation have all been producing the leading models of refrigerators sold in Japan. One of the most focused developments in recent years is the cooling technology for isolated compartments inside refrigerators called chilled rooms. Hitachi, for instance, offers a series of refrigerators with a vacuum compartment, which helps to sustain the freshness of the food.
