In 2023, the main natural gas importer in Italy was Eni with over 18.7 billion cubic meters. Edison followed far behind with around half of Eni's imports. Other relevant natural gas importers in 2022 were the Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company — as Azerbaijan ranked second as natural gas supplier to Italy —, Shell Energy Europe Limited, and the Enel Global Trading. The total volume of natural gas imports in Italy in 2023 amounted to roughly 57 billion cubic meters.
