In 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic, Saudi Arabia had a fiscal balance of minus 11.1 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP). It was projected that the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region would have a fiscal balance of 11 percent of its GDP in 2021.
