Music streaming services usage frequency South Korea 2024
According to a survey conducted among South Korean music listeners in 2024, around 46 percent of respondents stated that they streamed music almost every day. Overall, over 84 percent of those surveyed listened to music on a weekly basis.
Music as a daily companion
The same survey showed that the most common device used for music listening was smartphones. For most South Koreans, the usual time spent on listening to music in one sitting ranged from 10 to 30 minutes, although some spent up to one hour doing so. People who used music streaming or download services stated that one of the reasons they chose and stayed with a service was because it was free or heavily discounted.
Popular streaming apps
Among the most-used streaming services in Korea, the free YouTube service emerged as the most popular, closely followed by the domestic streaming service Melon. The number of monthly active users (MAU) of the YouTube app on Android surpassed four million users as of March 2024, indicating a general growth over the past year. This figure nearly matched that of domestic app Melon, whose number of MAUs decreased over the same period.
