According to the forecast, there will be approximately 42.3 million 5G users in China in 2020 and the number is expected to grow to 1.39 billion by 2030.

Huawei, the Chinese market leader in telecommunications, has filed over 3,000 patents globally as of early 2020, followed closely by its South Korean counterpart Samsung. Meanwhile, Huawei has also contributed the highest number of standards worldwide as of 2018, where the only comparable counterpart is Ericsson from Sweden.

Unsurprisingly, the telecommunications industry has been among the first industries to take advantage of the unprecedented speeds of 5G mobile internet technology, through smartphones, tablets, and other mobile gadgets. In South Korea, over 25 percent of monthly smartphone mobile data traffic was already using 5G technology, while 5G-enabled smartphone shipments was forecasted to account for over half of all smartphone shipments worldwide by 2023.
