The most common type of retirement benefit offered by employers in the United States was employee-funded plan, such as the 401(k), as of December 2020. Over 50 percent of employers surveyed offered employee-funded plans to their employees. Meanwhile, over 40 percent of the employers did not offer any retirement benefits at that time.
