This statistic displays the average number of individuals employed per banks across the 28 European countries as of December 31st, 2018. Overall, as of the end of 2018 there were nearly 2.67 million individuals working at banks across Europe. Despite Germany having the highest number of overall staff employed in the banking sector when this number is taken into account with the total number of banks in operation (1,584) their average number of staff per bank was 357. Romania on the other hand had in 2018 34 banks with under 54 thousand employees meaning their average number of staff per bank was far higher at nearly 1.6 thousand.
