This statistic shows the consumption of space heating of buildings in Finland in 2017, by type of building and energy source. During that year, residential buildings were the largest consumers of energy from small scale combustion of wood, with approximately 53.3 thousand terajoules of energy. Industrial buildings were the largest users of energy from heavy fuel oil, with roughly 8.3 thousand terajoules, whereas agricultural buildings used peat the largest amount, with approximately 1.9 thousand terajoules.

The source adds the following information: "Since 2008, the figures of residential buildings include the energy for heating domestic water. Before this and in the figures of service buildings the energy for heating domestic water is included only as concerns central heating systems."
