This statistic shows the results of a 2018 study on the estimated municipal waste recycling rate of EU member states by 2020. Romania was the country most likely to miss the EU's recycling target, with an estimated recycling rate of 19 percent by 2020. By comparison, Italy, Ireland, Czechia and Lithuania were all forecast to reach the 2020 target.

The 2020 municipal waste recycling target was introduced by the European Commission with the goal of having 50% of all municipal waste in its member states recycled.
