In 2023, there were an estimated total of around 40,600 right-wing extremists in Germany. This means that the potential for right-wing extremism reached a new high in the period under review, having risen continuously in previous years.

* These include part of the 1,250 right-wing extremist "Reich citizens" and "self-administrators", who are organized in supraregional structures, as well as 600 members of the "Identitarian Movement Germany" (IBD, suspected case, see in detail page 82 ff.). For the IBD there are actual indications of a right-wing extremist effort, so that the grouping is processed by the BfV as a suspected case.

According to the source, the figures are partly estimates and rounded. Figures for the years preceding 2020 were retrieved from earlier issues of the Defense of the Constitution Report.
