According to a survey conducted in 2021, close to 22 percent of respondents in Japan aged between 12 to 21 years old claimed to participate in sports at least five times a week, while an almost equal amount of respondents stated that they exercised at least five times a week for 120 minutes and with more than moderate intensity. The rate of young Japanese people participating in sports with high frequency gradually declined over the years.
