The OV-chipkaart is a contactless smart card used to travel by public transport and maintained by TransLink, a company created by the five biggest public transport companies in the Netherlands: Connexxion, GVB, RET, NS and HTM. As of 2018, there were approximately 2.72 billion transactions made with the OV-chipkaart, of which roughly 1.21 billion were transactions meant to order credit whilst and 1.23 billion transactions concerned transactions in travel products.
