Leading pet care retailers ranked by turnover in Europe 2019

In 2019, German company, Fressnapf, accumulated the highest turnover in this sector in Europe, generating 2.1 billion euros. Pets at Home, based in the UK, ranked in second place, with a turnover of 948 million euros.
In Europe, approximately 85 million households owned at least one pet animal as of 2019. Of the leading pet types, cats rank in first place, with a population of approximately 77 million that same year. In Romania, Latvia and Hungary the share of households owning cats is as high as 47 percent, 38 percent and 34 percent, respectively. Given the popularity of pets in Europe, there is great opportunity for retailers offering pet-related products and services, with this industry reaching a value of approximately 19.7 billion euros in 2019.
