The risk index for a river flood occurring in Malaysia as of August 2024 was 6.8 out of a maximum ten points, while the risk of coastal flood was 6.4 out of ten. Since 2003, Malaysia had experienced some of its worst floods, with more than 6,000 people being affected by flash floods and the landslides triggered by floods in 2017 alone.
