As of 2017, 75 percent of all online payment transactions in the Netherlands were done through iDEAL. iDEAL is an inter-bank system, local to the Dutch market, allowing shoppers to use their bank account for online purchases. It is covered by all major Dutch consumer banks, reaching 378 million online payments in 2017. Credit cards and Paypal were both used less often.
