This statistic shows the distribution of total retail payment transactions in the Netherlands from 2006 to 2017, by payment method used. Debit cards were widely used, reaching a market share of 53 percent in 2017. In 2017, there were approximately 259 million debit cards in the Netherlands. Between 2006 and 2016, the total number of debit cards increased from 25.5 million in 2006 to 27.7 million in 2016.
