Mexico: amaranth production volume 2012-2023
In 2023, Mexico's amaranth production volume amounted to approximately six thousand metric tons, representing an increase of five percent compared to the previous year.
Amaranth is a cereal that does not have as large a production as other cereals in Mexico. Nevertheless, it is popular both for its nutritional components and for its relatively soft flavor, which makes it ideal for sweet snacks. In 2023, the area harvested with this cereal reached over three thousand hectares.
In 2022, the export value of amaranth amounted to over 120 thousand U.S. dollars, about 210 percent more than ten years before, but around 62 percent less than in 2019. In recent years, there have been little to no imports of amaranth into the country.
