The share of Swedes who wish to receive fewer refugees increased significantly from 2015 to 2016 after the high number of Syrian refugees arriving in the country that year. Whereas around 40 percent of the respondents thought it was a good idea that the country should receive fewer refugees between 2010 and 2015, more than half have had the same opinion since 2016, even reaching close to 60 percent since 2019. Despite this, Swedes were generally positive towards receiving refugees from Ukraine after the Russian invasion in February 2022.
