This statistic presents the forbearance ratio of loans and advances in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as of March 2020, by country. Forbearance on a loan is a temporary postponement of a mortgage repayment. It allows a payment period relief in lieu of the creditor foreclosing on any property that was used as collateral for the loan. Often a lender is willing to negotiate forbearance due to the losses incurred through a properties foreclosure is often put onto them.
As of March 2020, Czechia had the lowest forbearance ratio of loans and advances in CEE with 0.4 percent. During the same period, the forbearance ratio of loans in Bulgaria amounted to 6.2 percent.

The source added the following information; "Individual country data includes subsidiaries, which are excluded from EU aggregate. For example, at country level the subsidiary in country X of a bank domiciled in country Y is included both in data for countries X and Y (for the latter as part of the consolidated entity). In the EU aggregate, only the consolidated entity domiciled in country Y is considered. The sample of banks is unbalanced and reviewed annually."
