According to a global online shopper survey in January 2019, 63 percent of responding online shoppers stated that their primary reason in purchasing a product at a marketplace over that of a retailer was due to the fact that marketplace places offered better and more competitive prices relative to that of retailers.

The survey was administered online to 18,000 consumers in 10 languages across 15 countries between December 2018 and January 2019. All participants made at least two online orders that required delivery in the three months prior to taking the survey.
