Leading e-commerce payment methods in Indonesia 2023
In 2023, the most popular method for e-commerce payments in Indonesia was digital wallet. It accounted for 40 percent of all e-commerce payments in that year. The value of e-commerce payments in Indonesia is expected to grow in the coming years.
Online purchases with online payment
According to a survey conducted in October 2022, about 90 percent of e-payment users stated that they used e-payment transactions to pay online purchases. Its convenience and practicality were the leading reasons why Indonesians chose e-payment transactions. With the rising number of e-commerce markets in Indonesia, it is therefore not surprising that the volume of e-payment transactions has also increased. In 2023, the annual e-commerce spending on electronic products among Indonesian consumers alone was estimated at 10.71 million U.S. dollars.
Leading e-payment platforms
As of october 2022, GoPay (by Gojek) ranked first among the most used digital payment platform in Indonesia, followed by OVO and DANA. The security of the platform and its customer service were the top reasons why consumers preferred one platform over the other. While GoPay is associated with Gojek and used exclusively for transactions within the app, OVO partnered with Gojek’s biggest rival, Grab, and one of the largest e-commerce platforms in Indonesia, Tokopedia, to help secure its position as the country’s most-used mobile payment service/app
