Canadian consumers who buy groceries online 2019

Almost 16 percent of Canadian respondents stated that they currently buy groceries online when questioned in a survey carried out in November 2019 by ProdegeMR. Of those that do not buy groceries online, over 53 percent were willing to try the service in the future.

What would persuade shoppers to buy groceries online?

According to a recent survey, free shipping would entice over 55 percent of respondents to purchase their groceries through e-commerce channels in Canada. Guaranteed fresh fruit as well as one day delivery were other top factors which would persuade Canadians to shop online.

Retail sales of supermarkets and other grocery stores reached an all-time high in 2018 when revenues totaled around 84.13 billion Canadian dollars. As of December 2018, Ontario had the most grocery stores among all provinces in Canada - there were 5,477 grocery stores located in Canada’s most populous province. Quebec and British Columbia ranked in second and third places, with a total of 4,237 and 1,670 stores respectively.
