Domestic travel spending in Russia 2019-2034
The value of domestic travel and tourism spending in Russia in 2024 was estimated at over 4.3 trillion Russian rubles. The expenditure increased slightly compared to the previous year and was expected to increase by roughly 1.1 trillion Russian rubles between 2024 and 2034. Russia's inbound tourism spend was significantly lower.
Domestic tourism destinations in Russia
In 2022, over 6.9 million Russians went on package tours within their country. The Krasnodar Krai positioned in the south of the country on the Black Sea coast led the ranking of most popular destinations for domestic tourism in Russia. In 2021, nearly one in four domestic travelers admitted to have frequented this federal subject. Consequently, every tenth passenger on a domestic flight was found to be traveling to Sochi, the second-largest city in the region which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Domestic tourism cashback program in Russia
In July 2020, the Russian government announced a tourism rebate program to boost the domestic tourism demand. The idea behind it was to stimulate affordable domestic tours, allowing travelers to get up to one fifth of the tour price refunded. As of September 2020, over 40 percent of Russians expressed their interest in the benefits. The program ran until 2022.
