Number of GPs in England 2016-2024, by gender

As of December 2024, there were over 20 thousand female general practitioners (GPs) in NHS England, compared to approximately 17.8 thousand male GPs. Ever since 2017, the number of female GPs has overtaken the number of male GPs, with a growth rate far higher than that of their male counterpart.
