The number of basic materials industry companies trading on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) increased overall between January 2018 to December 2023, despite some fluctuations. As of December 2023, basic resources companies accounted for almost 90 percent of companies, with 180 company trading on the LSE, reaching a combined market capital of over 224 billion British pound (GBP). In December 2023, the largest basic materials company in terms of market capitalization trading on the LSE was the Australian mining giant Rio Tinto.
