Number of healthcare physicians in Turkey 2000-2022

In 2022, there were nearly 194,700 healthcare physicians employed in Turkey. Since 2009 this number has climbed year-on-year from 85,242 physicians at the start of the provided time interval. As a ratio, this results in an average of 438 citizens to each physician in Turkey in 2022.  

Increases in other health areas in Turkey

Alongside this rise in physicians, the total number of employees in the health industry of Turkey reached 1.35 million in 2022, almost quadrupling over the count of health care professionals in 2000. Additionally, there were nearly 1,600 inpatient medical institutions, again a figure which has generally risen in the preceding decade.

Interactions with the health system in Turkey

In 2022, about six in ten individuals had visited a general practitioner in the past 12 months, women were more likely than men to do so. Furthermore, a 2023 study found that 37 percent of those surveyed rated the quality of health care in Turkey as good, compared to 23 percent who rated it as poor.
