In 2020, the murders of at least 65 land activists or environmentalists were documented in Colombia, making it the deadliest year of the period under consideration. Small-scale farmers, indigenous and afro-descendent people were the main targets of these crimes in the South American country, which also documented the largest number of murders of activists and environmentalists in 2020.
