During a survey conducted in the Netherlands in June 2020, 44 percent of respondents said they purchased their latest paper books. However, 2020 was a difficult year in the book market due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the temporary lockdowns. Despite that, more than 15 percent of respondents also reported receiving their last book as a gift and 12 percent borrowed it from a library.
