Share of video games most discussed online 2016-2018, by title
Online discussions about video games can give a clear idea of which the most popular games are over a specific period. In Italy, discussions among users between 2016 and 2018 were largely about Overwatch, Fifa 18 and Call of duty, which were by far the three most popular video games. Overwatch was the one leading the ranking with a share of 21 percent out of total online discussions in Italy. Unsurprisingly, Overwatch counted about 40 million gamers all over the world in May 2018.
Young players prefer Fifa
Apart from the team-based shooting set of Overwatch, Fifa was reported to be the most popular game among Italian male teenagers as well, according to a poll of 2018. Among other popular video games, 17 percent of male young players preferred Fortnite. What about young girls ? The survey results indicated that they used to play games but not on electronic devices. In fact, 21 percent of them preferred to play Monopoli, while 14 percent of them liked cards games.

A realistic picture of Italian video games players showed that a significant quota (13 percent) were aged between 45 and 64 years. Besides, ten percent of players were aged between 25 and 34 years old.
