In 2021, 13.9 percent of radio stations in the United States decreased their staff base, down from over 17 percent in the previous year. Meanwhile, just over 14 percent of radio stations responding to the study in the final quarter of 2021 reported an increase in staffing over the past 12 months.

For 2021 data, the survey was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2021 and responses came from 765 radio news directors and general managers representing 2,310 radio stations.
