News kiosks: newspaper sales in Italy 2004-2024
In Italy, just 950,000 newspapers were sold in kiosks in 2024. The number of newspaper sales from kiosks declined sharply in the last 20 years, having amounted to over 9.5 million back in 2004. By 2014 the number was as low as 2.6 million, a drop of over 25 percent in just a decade. Estimates suggest that only a handful of kiosks remain in Italy compared to earlier years, with a heavily contributing factor being the decline of newspapers sales and the increasing reliance on smartphones for news.
