Canadian skincare and cosmetics sales value by product type 2018

Sales of face care products in Canada reached almost 929 million Canadian dollars in the 52 weeks ending March 31, 2018, making them the highest selling skincare and cosmetic product category. Hand and body moisturizers and sun care products ranked in second and third places with sales of around 282 and 196 million dollars respectively.

Cosmetics in Canada

The value of the Canadian cosmetics market is expected to reach around 15.79 billion U.S. dollars by 2021, a leap in value of around 4.3 billion dollars since 2015. As of December 2018, there were 1,812 cosmetics, beauty supplies and perfume stores across Canada to cater for the growing market. Of these stores, 770 were located in Ontario.

How Canadians shop for cosmetics

According to a recent survey, Sephora was the most popular retailer used by Canadians when shopping for cosmetics primarily online. Amazon.ca and Walmart were among the other top choices for consumers. When choosing which specific cosmetics to purchase, Canadians are influenced strongly by recommendations from friends, family and family doctors.
