Distribution of residential real estate units in Canada in 2021, by building type
The majority of the residential real estate stock in Canada classed as private dwellings occupied by usual residents was single-detached houses in 2022. A considerable part of homes were apartments (about 34 percent), of which the most were apartments in buildings with fewer than five storeys. Meanwhile, 1.3 percent of the homes were movable dwellings, such as tents, recreational vehicles, travel trailers, houseboats or floating homes.
