In 2022, the majority of residents in South Korea lived in high-rise apartments with more than five stories, accounting for over 52 percent of the inhabited dwellings. According to the source, the share of households living in high-rise apartments had increased compared to the previous year.
Distribution of households in South Korea as of November 2022, by housing type
The population and housing census has been conducted every five years in South Korea since 1960. The 2018 version will be the 22th population census and the 14th housing census. Its sample is all Koreans and foreign residents in the territory of the Republic of Korea and their places of residence as of midnight November 1, 2019. From the census in 2015, Statistics Korea will apply register-based census, in which statistics are generated by various administrative data, for complete enumeration, as opposed to the former methodology which was a field survey.
