In 2022, approximately 761.6 thousand Chinese nationals were living in Japan, representing an increase from around 762 thousand Chinese residents in the previous year. After a slight decrease in 2013, the number of Chinese residents living in Japan had been increasing constantly until 2020.

Up until 2011, "China" includes Taiwan. From 2012 onwards, "China" excludes those who were issued with residence cards and special permanent resident certificates with "Taiwan" listed in the "nationality/region" box.
