During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Lionel Messi surpassed Gabriel Batistuta as the Argentine soccer player who has scored the most goals at FIFA World Cups. Batistuta took part in three of these events, while Messi has taken part in five. Following in the ranking are Diego Maradona and Guillermo Stabile, each with eight goals. Stabile scored all his goals in the first edition of the event.
Argentina’s victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosted in Qatar placed the nation fourth when it came to countries with the most FIFA World Cup titles since the competition’s inception in 1930. The Argentinian team also improved their ranking in the all-time table of the FIFA World Cup which grants national teams three points for each World Cup match win, one point for a draw, and zero for each loss. Despite being Champions in 2022, Argentina was still second to Brazil in the official FIFA world ranking of national men’s soccer teams as of December 2022.
