The number of cinema seats in the Netherlands increased steadily between 2007 and 2017, peaking at 133,500 seats in 2017. In 2018, the number of cinema seats in the Netherlands decreased for the first time within the period considered, to approximately 131,000 seats in total.

The number of cinemas/movie theaters, screens and seats is based on member base (as of January 1st 2019) excluding travelling and open air cinemas (in 2018:3) and the movie theaters without weekly programs (in 2018, incl. 12 internal film theaters: 78 film houses with 69 screens and 11,700 seats).
