Food services and drinking places in Canada were heavily impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Due to restrictions on sit-down dining many business in this sector saw huge declines in sales during 2020 and continuing into 2021. The lowest figure was seen in Q2 2020, when in April sales dropped to 2.4 billion Canadian dollars. However, by summer 2021 sales began to reflect pre-pandemic levels again, with July 2021 recording sales of 6.7 billion Canadian dollars. In August 2022, the monthly sales of food services and drinking places in Canada amounted to 7.85 billion.
