In 2021, B2B payment processor Adyen reached a net income that was 80 percent up from the previous year. Established in 2006, the Amsterdam-based company is currently valued at around 2.3 billion U.S. dollars and has a portfolio of clients including Netflix, Facebook, Uber and Spotify, plus retailers such as River Island and Superdry. It is widely regarded as one of the few European fintech "unicorns", a venture capital-backed, private business worth over one billion U.S. dollars.
