Despite the number of smartphone shipments fluctuating in the past few years, the number of Brazilians owning mobile devices has steadily increased. In 2023, about 72.4 percent of the population used smartphones and by 2028, such share is forecast to peak at around 97 percent. Over 72 percent of the smartphones sold in the Latin American country in 2021 cost between 2,000 and 7,000 Brazilian reais. Indeed, few Brazilians were willing to spend more than 2,000 Brazilian reais on their smartphones.
Apple is not a major player in the Brazilian smartphone market. This role is played by Samsung and Motorola, which, in 2023, were the most important smartphone vendors in the country, accounting for a market share of about 39.5 percent and 20 percent, respectively. By contrast, Apple ranked third, with around 14 percent of mobile devices operating on iOS.
