In the period from 2013 to 2023, the number of trips abroad made by Finnish residents decreased overall. In 2023, roughly 7.22 million outbound trips were made, of which 5.5 million leisure trips and 1.12 million business trips with overnight stay in the country of destination.
The huge drop in numbers was due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and the following travel restrictions, starting in 2020. In 2022, the numbers started to increase again, reaching 4.6 million leisure trips and 950 thousand business trips with an overnight stay in the country of destination

The source adds the following information: "The data for the statistics are collected with an inquiry consisting of two parts. The monthly inquiry collects data on trips made by Finnish residents during the past three months, their numbers and characteristics. In 2019, data were exceptionally collected about trips during three previous months."
