In 2020, media subscriptions brought in about 631 billion Indian rupees in revenue to India's media and entertainment sector compared to around 596 billion rupees from the advertising revenue. This showed a remarkable decline in growth rate in subscription revenues. The ad revenues were estimated to reach over 900 billion rupees by 2023.
