According to a survey carried out in Mexico from August to September 2021, around 10 percent of the female respondents have experienced receiving criticism for physical appearance or socioeconomic status, being contacted by false identities, and being provoked to react negatively. Women were overall more prone than men to experience situations of online abuse. However, around 14.7 percent of male internet users reported experiencing cyber harassment as receiving offensive messages, compared to 14.3 percent of female counterparts.
